A true Story

Hello ! My name is Pauline and I am 10 years old. I'd like to bring you in Jules's (Destrée, of course) universe.

After having visited the museum with my class, I went back with my parents and grand-parents to show them the school of olden times. And they found again the school of their youth. Gran-dad has written with a pen with ink out of an inkpot in an old lined notebook. It was wonderful. And what about me ? Well, I made plenty of inkstains. He told me that he always got an A in his bulletin for writing and care. Grand-mother remembered her needlework lessons. That does not surprise me !
She sews, knits, embroiders so well ! I brought photographs back that you discover in the back of the page.

But, by the way ! What has Jules Destrée to do with that ? Well, he did not like injustice and it is him who made school compulsory and free for everybody in 1919 when he became a minister.
So all the children could go to school and did not have to work in the mines or the factories any more.
By the way, girls of our age had to go to domestic school to learn how to cook, to sew, to iron. In the time of Jules Destrée, they were not allowed at the university !

If you want to take part to our enquiry, collect true stories. It is simple, you ask your parents, your grand-parents or your neighbours to remember their school and you compare the school of yesterday with the one of today.
