From 1880 to 1890, all the forces of the nation wake up, economical, social, philosophical, artistic and literary.
In this context the event of 27 May 1883 occurs : Camille Lemonnier (1844-1913), writer known for his " Un Mâle ", is refused for the quinquennial award of literature by the official judges. Scandal and public protest reach their peak while the tribute banquet for Camille Lemonnier offered by the members of the reviews " La Jeune Belgique " and " Art Moderne ".
This date is a turning point in which we can see the awareness of a national literature.
