Luxury articles in crystal

During the second half of the 18th century, articles made of crystal started to take on features that are now familiar to us, those of exclusively cut patterns.
But the monopoly of this production had already been lost, escaping overseas to Great Britain : a large number of continental glassmakers were to try to synthesise it.

In around 1760-1770, Sébastien Zoude set up the first continental crystalworks in Namur. It was the real debut of Belgian crystalworks, whose fame thanks to Vonêche, Zoude, and Val Saint-Lambert, would spread throughout the entire world during the following century.
